POWRIG Adjustable Ball Head Microphone Mount (MB-62M)
The POWRIG MB-62M is a compact, CNC-machined aluminum ball head mount that converts a standard 1/4"-20 thread (camera tripod, cage, cold shoe adapter) into a 5/8"-27 microphone thread — the universal standard for studio microphones, boom stands, and shock mounts. The integrated ball joint provides 360° pan and multi-axis tilt adjustment, allowing precise microphone positioning in any orientation.
Rated for a 3 kg (6.6 lb) maximum load, it securely supports most studio condenser microphones, broadcast microphones, and shotgun microphones — even when mounted on extended boom arms.
Key Features
- 1/4"-20 to 5/8"-27 Thread Adapter — The base screws onto any standard 1/4"-20 threaded mount (tripods, camera cages, cold shoe adapters, magic arms, desk clamps). The top outputs a 5/8"-27 thread — the universal microphone mount standard used by Rode, Shure, Audio-Technica, Sennheiser, and Neumann shock mounts and stand clips.
- 360° Ball Head Articulation — The ball joint allows full 360-degree rotation and multi-axis tilt for precise mic positioning. Lock the angle with the side knob — the ball head holds position firmly even under the weight of heavy studio microphones.
- 3 kg (6.6 lb) Load Capacity — Supports most professional microphones including large-diaphragm condensers (Neumann U87, AKG C414), broadcast dynamics (Shure SM7B, Electro-Voice RE20), and shotgun mics (Sennheiser MKH 416) without sag or drift.
- CNC Aluminum Alloy Construction — Machined from solid aluminum alloy with a black anodized finish. Provides rigid stability without the weight of steel. Will not flex or deform under normal use.
- 93g Compact & Portable — Lightweight enough to add to a camera cage or on-location kit without significant weight penalty. Small form factor fits in a pocket or accessory pouch.
- No-Tool Locking Knob — The side-mounted locking knob tightens and releases the ball head by hand. No Allen key or wrench required — adjust mic position on the fly during recording sessions.

What's in the Box
- 1 × POWRIG MB-62M microphone ball head mount
Compatible Microphones & Setups
The 5/8"-27 output thread is the universal microphone mount standard. This ball head works with:
- Studio condenser mics — Neumann U87, TLM 103, AKG C414, Rode NT1, Audio-Technica AT4050 (via shock mount or stand clip)
- Broadcast & podcast mics — Shure SM7B, Electro-Voice RE20, Rode PodMic, Heil PR40 (via standard stand adapters)
- Shotgun mics — Sennheiser MKH 416, Rode NTG5, Deity S-Mic 2 (via pistol grip or shock mount)
- Camera-top mics — Rode VideoMic Pro+, Sennheiser MKE 600 (mounted on camera cage cold shoe via 1/4" thread)
- Lavalier & boundary mics — Any mic with a 5/8" stand clip adapter
Common mounting setups:
- Boom arm — Screw the 1/4" base into a boom arm's 1/4" thread for overhead or desk-mounted boom positioning
- Camera cage — Mount on a cold shoe adapter with 1/4" thread for on-camera mic positioning
- Tripod — Use as a quick-adjust adapter between a standard tripod and a mic shock mount
- Desk clamp — Attach to a desk clamp arm for podcasting and streaming setups
- Magic arm — Mount on an articulating magic arm for flexible overhead or side positioning
Understanding Microphone Thread Standards
| Thread Standard | Common Use | Found On |
|---|---|---|
| 5/8"-27 | Microphone stands & shock mounts | Boom stands, shock mounts, stand clips (universal mic standard) |
| 1/4"-20 | Camera tripods & accessories | Tripods, camera cages, magic arms, cold shoe adapters |
| 3/8"-16 | Heavy-duty stands & studio rigs | C-stands, studio boom arms, overhead rigging |
The POWRIG MB-62M bridges the gap between the camera world (1/4"-20) and the audio world (5/8"-27), allowing you to mount professional microphones on camera support systems and vice versa.
Ball Head Mount vs. Fixed Adapter vs. Gooseneck
| Feature | POWRIG Ball Head (MB-62M) | Fixed Thread Adapter | Gooseneck Arm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Angle Adjustment | 360° pan + multi-axis tilt | None — fixed angle | Flexible but imprecise, drifts over time |
| Position Locking | Firm mechanical lock | N/A (no movement) | Weak — sag under heavy mics |
| Load Capacity | 3 kg — handles heavy studio mics | Varies by adapter quality | Low — typically <1 kg |
| Durability | CNC aluminum — years of use | Varies | Bends and fatigues over time |
| Precision Positioning | High — lock at exact angle | N/A | Low — springy, hard to dial in |
